Nathan’s Teaching Philosophy
-
Anybody can start learning the trumpet! I have worked with students as young as 4 years old, and as old as 65. Students on the younger end of the spectrum are excellent candidates for the Suzuki method.
-
The Suzuki Method is a style of teaching created by Shinichi Suzuki for the violin. Dr. Suzuki’s method has been adapted for many instruments, including the trumpet, which I am certified to teach! The Suzuki method aims to teach music to students through the “mother tongue” method, where they learn to play through listening and repetition. This helps foster solid foundation and tone on the instrument, and is strongly recommended for younger students.
-
I teach a wide variety of styles, including classical, jazz, and pop. Trumpet is one of the most versatile instruments, and that is reflected through my lessons. With my vast experience in different genres, you are sure to receive a quality education no matter your interests.
-
My lessons are priced competitively with other DC-based music lessons. I charge 45 dollars for a 30 minute lesson, 60 for 45 minutes, and 75 for an hour. Suzuki lessons are 50 for 30 minutes, 65 for 45 minutes, and 80 for an hour.

I pride myself on providing a safe space for students to learn and grow, and aim to develop lesson plans that meet the goals for every student. I believe that every child has the ability to learn the trumpet, and music in general, and aspire to give lessons where I balance patience with growth.
